U.S. Huntsville Land Office - Receivers' condensed quarterly account book, 1885-1897.

District land office Receivers were responsible for all financial transactions relating to the sale of public lands. They were required to submit quarterly accounts to the General Land Office for examination. These were quite detailed, listing all land sales. After 1885 it appears that Receivers also submitted a condensed quarterly account of debits and credits. The condensed quarterly account lists the amount of money deposited in local banks and identifies the bank by name. Credits list the total number of acres sold, amount of purchase money received, and amount and type of fees and commissions received. These records illustrate the financial responsibilities of district land office Receivers and provide an excellent summation of numbers of transactions, types of transactions and amounts received.
